Our Directors

Our two directors, who jointly manage the Trent Vegetable Gardens, both Directors are contactable through our email.

Director of Food & Farming

Emily Moylan | (They/them)

After working in various skilled trades for over a decade, I transitioned to academia, pursuing a degree in Environmental Science at Trent University. In doing so, I have been able to integrate my work ethic, hands-on knowledge of mechanical systems, and constructed environments with a theoretical knowledge of ecological systems, climate change, and sustainable practices.

As Director of Food and Farming at the Trent Vegetable Gardens, I am entrusted to, and fueled by, an ongoing pursuit to co-create a thriving campus food system that prioritizes community, education, and ecological well-being. In this role, I oversee our food and farming initiatives, including planning and managing our growing spaces, recruiting and overseeing staff, and managing health and safety compliance. I also contribute to the work that makes what the Trent Vegetable Gardens does possible, including financial management and budgeting, liaising with internal and external stakeholders, and maintaining the integrity and sovereignty of the farm space.

Director of Administration & Outreach

Paige King | (They/them)

I am a fourth-year student at Trent University, pursuing an Honours Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems. My interests lie in small-scale, agroecological farming and the fight for food sovereignty. I am passionate about food justice and environmental stewardship, and I incorporate these key values into all the work I do.

As the Director of Administration and Outreach, I am inspired to create impactful change and foster meaningful engagement with students, faculty, and the broader Peterborough/Nogojiwanong community. My responsibilities in this role include overseeing the management of our community gardens, fostering volunteer engagement, scheduling workshops, and educational programming. I also manage administrative tasks, financials, and funding applications, organize donations to local community organizations, and conduct outreach. But, most of my time is spent in the gardens assisting with daily operations in our growing spaces, such as seeding, bed preparation, weeding, and harvesting.

Our Steering Committee

The directors work with the Trent Vegetable Gardens Steering Committee, a volunteer group that helps govern organizational decisions.

6 Volunteer members

The Trent Vegetable Garden Directors meet monthly with the Trent Vegetable Garden Steering Committee, a group of experienced volunteers that helps guide the direction of our organization. Our amazing steering committee is comprised of community members, Trent faculty, community gardeners, alumni, and partnership stakeholders.

The steering committee is integral to the operation of the Trent Vegetable Gardens. They help with policy, human resources, decision-making, strategic planning, and much more. They help to ensure we uphold our guiding principles in all we do and assist the Directors in operational and administrative needs.

We are thankful to all of the dedicated members of our committee who put in hard work to help ensure the success of our organization year after year.
